How a Tamil Software Engineer Built a $5M Tech Startup in Markham
Siva Krishnarajah spent 11 years as a software architect at RBC before quitting in 2022 to build Clearbook — a bookkeeping and inventory management platform designed for small retail businesses in ethnic communities. The insight came from watching his parents struggle with accounting software designed for Western businesses that did not accommodate the realities of running a South Asian grocery store.
Today Clearbook has 1,400 paying customers across Canada, the UK, and Australia, an annual recurring revenue of $2.2 million, and a team of 12 developers working from Markham and remotely. Siva is now mentoring other Tamil tech entrepreneurs through the Tamil Innovation Summit programme.
