The Tamil Accountant Serving Over 500 Small Businesses
Suresh Thillai left a Big Four firm to serve the Tamil community — and has not looked back in 15 years.
After seven years at KPMG, Suresh Thillai opened his own accounting practice in Brampton in 2010, targeting Tamil-owned small businesses that he felt were underserved by larger firms. His initial client list of 12 businesses has grown to over 500 clients across the GTA, including restaurants, medical clinics, law firms, and construction companies.
Suresh credits his growth to word of mouth, a deep understanding of the challenges facing immigrant entrepreneurs, and a Tamil-first service model — all staff are Tamil-speaking and the office is open on Saturdays. "Our clients work 60 hours a week running their businesses. The least I can do is be available on their schedule," he says. His firm now employs 14 CPAs and accountants.
