Navigating Toronto's Public Transit System
The TTC, GO Transit, MiWay, YRT — Toronto's multi-operator transit network explained for newcomers.

Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area is served by several transit operators. The TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) operates the subway, streetcars, and buses within the City of Toronto. Metrolinx runs GO Transit regional trains and buses connecting the GTA. YRT (York Region Transit) covers Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, and Aurora. MiWay serves Mississauga, and Brampton Transit serves Brampton.

The PRESTO card is the easiest way to pay — it works across all systems and offers discounted fares compared to cash. Load money at PRESTO machines in subway stations, online, or at major retailers. A single TTC ride is $3.30 with PRESTO ($3.35 cash). Monthly passes are available for regular commuters. Google Maps transit directions work well for planning routes across all operators.
