Ontario Government Invests $1.2M in Tamil Heritage Language Programs
The Ontario Ministry of Education has announced a $1.2 million investment in Tamil Heritage Language programs across 14 school boards, covering materials, teacher training, and a new curriculum framework developed in partnership with Tamil educators and community organisations.
The funding will benefit an estimated 4,800 students currently enrolled in Tamil Heritage Language classes in the GTA, Peel Region, and York Region. Tamil is now the sixth most commonly taught heritage language in Ontario after French, Mandarin, Italian, Spanish, and Arabic.
