Tamil Heritage Month in Ontario

Ontario officially declared January as Tamil Heritage Month in 2016, recognising the rich cultural contributions of Tamil Canadians to the province's social, economic and cultural fabric. Every January, communities across the GTA host a vibrant calendar of events celebrating Tamil language, literature, music, dance and cuisine.

Highlighted Events — January 2026

Tamil Heritage Month Gala Dinner — January 18th

The flagship event of the month, hosted at the Toronto Reference Library. Featuring live Carnatic music performances, Bharatanatyam presentations, and a multi-course South Indian dinner.

Thirukkural Recitation Competition — January 25th

Students from Grade 1 through Grade 12 compete in reciting and interpreting verses from the Thirukkural. Open to all — held at Scarborough Civic Centre.

Tamil Classical Music Concert — January 31st

A special evening of Carnatic classical music featuring internationally acclaimed musicians. Held at Harbourfront Centre. Free admission with advance registration.

Young Tamil Professionals Networking Night — January 22nd

Connect with Tamil Canadian professionals across finance, technology, healthcare, law and entrepreneurship. Hosted by Tamil Canadians and TCBA.
